How this board changed my life, Thanks all!

Many moons ago (Q1/2007) I inherited some money, wanted to use this as a deposit and buy, but as a FTB was priced out of the market. I had a rant about it which attracted many replies: Here it is: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=472692&page=9

Well well well, how times change! Since then, I almost bought a 1 bed flat in Sept 07, but luckily it fell through (again after advice on this board in other posts) Meanwhile, the advice in the thread above got me thinking........

I had (and continue to have) FABULOUS holidays (am going to India for 4 weeks end of Feb.. just had to get that smug point in ;-) ... but I also put away the majority of the inheritence in a high interest fixed savings account as a direct result from the advice I received to my rant.

I am now much more educated about 'investing' (again thanks to this board/site and the links/advice/opinions posted here etc). I also decided to take a peek at the 'long term view' advocated by others, and signed up for a part time PhD (how's that for commitment?!)

Had I not posted that rant I would have indeed gone off and blown the lot on relentless round the world travelling, instead I am doing little travels here and there, saving, educating myself further and it's all looking good!

BIG THANK YOU to you all!

    That's fabulous,

It's a good idea you didn't buy as you'd have lost lots of money (unless you were planning on staying put for a while) but by the sounds of it you are enjoying seeing the world :D

I agree that MSE is a great site. I posted in the Warnings board about my 87 year old uncle being, in my view, scammed by a notorious Leeds bed company that imo prey on the elderly. Full story here (very long post though):

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=374289&highlight=powermatic

This led to lots of pm's and info from MSE'ers and now the directors of that company, Powermatic, (currently re-opened as More Than Mobility), are under investigation for tax matters by the Insolvency Service.

Checked the thread today and saw that someone had cancelled a mattress sold to his elderly mum for £1900 because were suspicious, googled, and read my thread. I was overwhelmed by the support from MSE'ers and am so pleased that so many people have been warned about the people behind these companies.
  • That's lovely!
