Yep:D , when we lived with my OHs mum we used to do this, although where we had shorter durtains in our bedroom we used to tuck the bottoms onto the window sill so the heat didnt just go up the back of the curtains and into the window. It definitly made a difference.scheming_gypsy wrote: »third option..
i know somebody who tucks their curtains behind the back of the radiator.0 -
Maybe you could have blinds or short curtains for drawing, and "dress" long curtains for effect?
We have wooden blinds on all windows but it is too cold to not draw them in the evening, despite the double glazing. Also in the summer, they'll let too much light in in the morning...0 -
Try blackout material blinds [roller, vertical or roman].0

Your implying i haven't worked out my BTUs already?
Andy
Lordy no! I was referring to me
It's a long time since I got GCE in Physics with Chemistry and I've forgotten it all. Now you'll tell me you're not old enough for GCEs and did GCSE :rotfl:
When the builders told us they'd ordered the rads, I said I hoped they'd ordered big ones as I'm a very cold soul. Apparently they always go for a bit more than needed as it's easy to turn it down but you can't turn it up when already on full! They speak my language!0 -
Well, after much deliberation last night - long ones it is!
(it appears the blinds do a good job and we never have the heating on during the night anyway)0 -
Yep i did GCSEs :rotfl:...but thermal heat loss calculations didn't come until A-Level physics as i recall! Plus these days it's all in new money i.e WattsNow you'll tell me you're not old enough for GCEs and did GCSE :rotfl:
I guess GCEs were much more advanced than when i took my GCSEs!
Anyways at http://diydata.com/plumbing/index.php the "central heating design" section tells all you need to know ..i don't have much faith in the online calculators as they all give completely different answers!
