Opening a US bank account.

I used to live and work in the US, but closed the account when I moved home to the UK. I'd like to reopen one as I visit the states at least 2 - 3 times a month and think it would be a good option.

Anyone know the best way of opening one - can it be done online, or would I have to go into a branch. I have a US social security number but not a driving license.
