How to answer insurance Q's re: Driving Ban

In April 04 my husband had an accident and was convicted of Dangerous Driving (DD40) in July 04. When i get car insurance quotes and select additional driver it says does this person have any driving convictions in the past 5 years when it gets past July can i say no as it was over 5 years ago or is this still classed as the 5th year?

The actual dates are :-

Date of offence-20/4/04
Date of conviction- 5/7/04

Any help greatfully received.

On 5/7/09 the conviction is more than 5 years old, so declaration not required after that date.

Why hasn't he paid for the extra insurance? I hope you haven't been ferrying HIM around.

Sometimes Insurers ask "Have you ever been banned from driving" and in this case you would have to answer he has.

Hopefully they will have it was quite a harsh convction considering the circumstances but he accepted his punishment, 70 hours community service, losing his job (he was a delivery driver) and a nagging wife (who throws it back in his face when he comments on my driving). Was also scary when we got to court and the solicitor said if it had gone to crown court its a prisonable offense.

We couldn't afford the extra insurane tbh he has to resit his test and it was really expensive because it was quotes for a provisional and they take the conviction into account when quoting. And yes i have hence my eagerness.

Thanks for that will bear that in mind if they do ask but tbh most of the quotesi've had inthe past don't seem to ask that question.

No you wouldn't, as the conviction is spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (assuming no prison sentence was involved).
