    Thanks for your help!
    I changed to WPA personal, with TKIP.

    Now when I try and connect to the network, I get a message saying something like "The settings on your computer do not match the settings of the wireless network" so I have changed back to WEP for the moment - not sure what I did wrong there? Are you sure there are no settings I need to change on the router?

    You have to remove the old settings from the laptop first, then re connect. Mmm i've had that error before, try and make the wireless signal both G and B

    Sorry, my bad

    It's the type of signal your router sends out, you want it to send out b and g. It should look something like this:

    802.11 Mode :
    802.11g only Mixed 802.11g and 802.11b 802.11b only

    (normally it's in a drop down menu on the same page you set the security on)

    OK - I went to "Manage Wireless Networks", deleted the old wep one and then setup a new wpa tkip network, but still get the same problem?

    There is no drop-down menu on that security page anywhere. I did find this info on the page:

    "Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter"

    Wireless mode = IEEE 802.11 b/g
    802.11d = disable

    There are some more settings there as well. Not sure what any of them are!

    I couldn't get the WPA to work, but once I removed ZoneAlarm the problem seems to have gone away!
