Reclaiming PPI on an old loan that I don't know details of?

Options
Took a loan out at 19 and am now just 24.

The loan was with Nationwide and taken out after meeting with the branch manager at the time. It was later increased from £2k to £4k as I wanted more money.

I paid it off in 2006. However I was paying PPI on the loan for the whole term after being under the imprssions from the branch manager that I needed this to be entitled to the loan.

I have no idea of any details of the loan (i.e. account number) I do however still have my debit account with them.

How do I gop about proceeding with claiming the PPI back please?

  • Right just called them and got details.

They have put something through to the compaint dept as I said I will be wanting to reclaim PPI.

Do I need to send letters too or let them do their thing?

You can request a copy of the agreement if you want. Its costs £1 and they have to reply in 12 days. I would send it recorded delivery so you have a proof. You could also just make a complaint without the agreement number if you bank there as I am sure they would be able to find the details.

You should do all corresponding by recorded delivery. Have you actually complained now or not in writing? I would do the letter thing and not listen to them saying they have taken the complaint.

If you need any help with the letters then Just take a look at the link here and see what you can add and delete from the template letter. Its always best to do your own from this. There are lots of reason on there for the misselling so pick out the ones that are applicable to yours.

You then write to the firm that actually made the sale of the PPI to you if this is different from the lender and don't forget to send this recorded delivery so you always a proof and dates etc.

After that you have to give them 8 weeks for a full and final response. In this time it is usual to get a response of "sorry we sold this to you fairly" but you then respond to this and reiterate your complaint again. The next time they write they either give you a final response which you would need in order to take this complaint to the FOS or offer to settle.
