gas fire help

want to replace my existing gas fire with a new one. It is fitted in a flue and I have a back boiler. Will all gas fires be compatible with a back boiler?

Its very doubtful, does the back boiler run the central heating?
I'm pretty sure that back boiler central heating systems are no longer made either.

On the other hand, it seems that Baxi may still do them!

Thanx, but I don't want to replace the boiler, just the fire. We put a new fire in when we moved here, and yes it does run the central heating.

See what you mean now I've looked into it. BIG money or what?? Praps it's easier just getting a new fireplace!

  • You must not attempt to replace just the gas fire. Firstly it would be dangerous, as the flue could not possibly work with the back-boiler. Secondly it would be illegal, as the law says that no gas appliance may be modified (by removing the fire from thye back-boiler you would be modifying it. I strongly advise you to consult a registered gas installer. If you mess about with it yourself you risk killing yourself and your family with carbon-monoxide poisoning.
