    from BBC news 25th Jan:
Low-cost airline Ryanair is to begin charging passengers extra for checking in their baggage before flights.
The Dublin-based carrier said people with bags and cases would be charged £2.50 (3.50 euros) for every item of luggage checked in from 16 March.

Ryanair said it was introducing the charge in an effort to reduce airport handling costs.
The airline said passengers carrying only hand luggage would avoid the extra fee and be able to check in online

Bit miffed as I'm a regular user myself.. and can never fit all my stuff into a holdall, plus it will be a nightmare with everyone trying to cram bags into the overheads and under seats to save a fiver (return)!!

Ohh, there's an extra route starting this month from Manchester to Shannon airport.. handy for those travelling to the West of Ireland..
  • Just read my local paper and a couple are suing Ryanair. Cost them an extra £240 in excess bills. Apparently booked for Turin back in Nov, their Blackpool to Stansted flight was changed 3 times before they left a couple of weeks ago. When they arrived in Stansted, they found their flight to Turin was cancelled. They were diverted to Genoa, 2 hours away. On the way home, the flight time was changed again, and ended up arriving home without their luggage. Because of the many changes, they had to take an extra day off work and spend money on hotel bills. Ryanair, apparently were not forthcoming with any apologies. Not great public relations for them.

Think this thread needs to be moved to 'Travel' and merged with the Ryanair debate over there.

well look what i have started here! CHUCKY I didnt say free flights I said 5p and we all know that there are taxes etc to be added otherwise how could they operate a business, I'm not being ungrateful for your comment either just pointing out the facts. We always travel with hand luggage, not to avoid costs but for the speed, and to be fair to the company all terms and conditions are stated on the web site at time of booking, along with the allowed luggage weights etc.
Wish I had never posted this now.. I dunno lol, you try to help a few people and all this kicks off *giggles*

  • Hi pash, can you recommend a hotel in the heart of Dublin?
I was looking at the travel lodge, but i dont know which one would be best to stay at to be close to the action.

Any other hotels in the heart of Dublin?

SM we stayed at Cassidy's, 3 star superior on O'Connel street, 10 mins walk from Grafton Street and Trinity college etc..
Can highly recommend it, there are quite a few on that street though and its near enough to the action but far still far enough away to be not too noisy! beware though, when i was booking i did notice a lot of hotels in Dublin have nightclubs in them.. ok if it's your kind of thing but not what I was wanting

Watch out for RyanAir taxes/fees. They charge about 5 pounds more than EasyJet in taxes and fees. I've had cases where a 5.99 EasyJet fare was cheaper than a 5p Ryanair fare because of the taxes/fees. Plus, EasyJet has a little less restrictions on baggage.
