Sick leave

Quick question - I suspect I'll have to ask our eternally unhelpful HR dept but wanted to ask here first.
Last year (about 4 months ago) I had to have several weeks off work due to pregnancy complications - now we get paid sickleave for a set amount of days (30 working days) before it drops to SSL. That allowance is annual... and thus my question... would annual mean jan to jan, 12 month anniversary from my start date with the company or 12 months from when I last had a sick day or even financial year??
It is highly likely I will need to take more sicktime unfortunately and whilst I'll take it regardless of the pay situation then obviously it would be good if I don't drop down to SSL whilst off... just another stress I could do without...
or as hubby thinks it's a "rolling 12 months" - and when my allowance goes up after being there 12 months it goes up again... but for the rolling 12 months
Which I suspect is right but just wanted to check
Thanks!

Only your own ts and cs would tell you when your year runs (so if you don't have a handbook then I'm afraid it's an approach to HR). (Absence Management policies usually using rolling periods).
However, pregnancy related absence is protected by discrimination legislation. The absence can't be counted as part of any disciplinary procedure. I'm unsure as to how this is affected by company sick pay (as opposed to stat sick pay).
So I'm probably not being much help - sorry.0 -
It may well be a "rolling" year, which could be from the end of your last sickness period.....but as previously said, it should be in your terms & conditions or staff handbook.0

LOL no I know it can't be used in disciplinary procedures etc but unfortunately it still counts towards the sick leave entitlement... interestingly enough though I think it's all acedemic anyway as when you have been there a year (which I now have) then your allowance goes up to several months... and even if it's rolling then I should be covered as I now have something silly like 3 months (well 90 days WORKING days) before I drop to SSL - will need to re-check the handbook (again) - I just find the lingo bloody confusing - although my hubby who reads contracts for a living agreed it's a "carp contract - if someone working for him had put it together he'd have fired their !!!!"DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
