It is really complicated to see how much it actually is by this site.Has anyone done it that can give a clearer idea of how much it is to do?

    Hi Mandles,

You may get some more replies on the In My Home board, so I'll move your thread over there.

  • As far as I know it varies between which organisation you wish to register through and at which level you wish to join. Nice for electricians to have such choice, unlike us gas fitters  .
  • It really is just another stealth tax though. It stops the genuine one man electrician from doing any work without paying a stupid amount of money. It won't stop the cowboys though, as they don't care anyway!!

Yes, but at least you have a body with a name "Corgi" that most people recognise. If you ask someone how they know if an "electrician" is qualified to do work in their house they wouldn't have a clue.

For plumbers, part P it's easy, just avoid it by getting boilers with 13A plugs fitted and use low voltage or wireless roomstats. Or move to Scotland. :D
  • It is a real lottery, there must be at least 10 companies doing part p certification. Not all to the same standard i suspect?

i know it was a toss up what to train for initially, a plumber or electrician but decided it is cheaper to train to be electrician so i do pity plumbers and what they have to fork out to keep up to regulation!
  • Plumbers do not require a corgi certificate only gas fitters. So plumbing is still an un regulated trade!
