Is this OS (buying shoes)

Options
I always buy good quality comfy shoes which cost me a lot. Wanted a pair of white mules for a holiday this month so purchased a pair of Fly Flots which were half price on web. They look so good and feel like walking on air. They sent a booklet with all their sale items and I have ordered mules in another colour, sandles for evenings and moccasins telling myself I have enough to last a few years. Now wondering if I got carried away. I did not hear Martin whispering in my ear. Is this the same as stocking up on loo rolls when they are on offer.

  • Think about the cost-per-wear. If they're really comfy, well made and go with lots of outfits you'll wear them a lot, so the cost per wear will be low. That makes them OS IMHO.

    I agree with seabright :)

I bought a pair of Clark's last weekend £55

£40 of that was my buffday money from the inlaws though, so I only had to put £15 to it.:o

I'm a courier and good shoes are important, so spending on good ones pays off for me. My last pair of work shoes were Hush Puppies and I got two and a half winters out of them.:D

The 'must have' shoes I wanted (also Clark's) were £54.99 last September, and as they are just for going out, or making me feel good when I go shopping...I didn't buy them straight away. I waited...and waited.... November they went down to £26.99 + p&p....I waited.....December they went down to £20 + p&p...I waited a bit longer...then I read on here that Clark's were doing free p&p from Christmas until January 5th...so I logged on New Year's day and they had been reduced to £16.65 and no p&p....I bought them...luckily they still had my size...:T

    I love them...

My 'love-to-have' shoes are Hotter. Similar price range - £40-£60 BUT as seabright and Saab have said, if they are comfortable and last you well then the price good.

I checked out my faves on their 'clearance page' and found a pair for £26.99. A real bargain price, very smart for work PLUS comfort - what bliss!

My feet become painful when I walk a lot, PLUS I'm a size 9 (or an 8 with very broad fitting!) so quite difficult to get hold of sometimes. I bought a pair of '9's' from Brantano last spring and found them uncomfortable. When I offered them to my daughter she found they barely fitted her and she only takes a 7 - so obviously there's variations in size 9's depending on where you get them from!

Agree seabright. I think cost per wear is a good yardstick. Obviously if you can get good quality at a bargain price then that's even better but at normal prices 'buy cheap, buy twice' makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm with Saab - I love Clarks shoes but because of where I live now don't get the chance to buy in their sale any more :( and guess who never thought of looking to buy online - what a wally  I've got several pairs of shoes from Clarks that have done me well over the years and at wear per pair would now come into pennies!:j

Just registered with the site and pleased to note that I don't get pinged for living on an island. You'd be amazed at the number of places that either don't deliver to the Highlands and Islands or charge us extra for the priviledge

I buy Kangaroos (shoes not the animals) because I find they fit me really well which cost me between £40 and £50 a pair but working in a school as a TA I'm on my feet a lot or on my knees, up and down, etc so if I do see them in the sale I will buy a couple of pairs as I wear them every day.

I would certainly consider your Flyflots a good investment.

  • I have a couple of pairs of Van Dal shoes, as I have wide feet, they were over £50 in a sale, but I have bee wearing them for 15 years now, so I think I've had my moneys worth

I have two pairs of 'Hobo's' sandles which I have had for three years They are very comfy and when on holiday they feel like your wearing slippers .
a little dearer than I would normally pay for summer sandles but well worth it for comfort and I expect to get another couple of summers out of them They were £35 when I bought them but worth every penny

Is it these  As this isn't Old Style, really, I'll move this to the Shop Don't Drop board ;)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
