BFPO and Verified by Visa

Options
2 part question

1. Is there anyone in BFPO land who has had a problem with Verified by Visa whislt trying to purchase goods/pay bills over the internet, and resolved the problem?
I am with Alliance & Liecester and they are one of the banks to have signed into VbV yet the software won't accept a BFPO address. My bank say it is VbV (I have tried e-mailing them with no response) yet my beef is that the bank should'nt have signed up to something that penalizes their customers.
This has been going on now for the best part of 6 months. With no sign of a resolution in sight, I have looked at changing banks which leads me onto Q2
2. Does anyone know of any bank (not with Santanda) that accepts BFPO in opening up a new account? Haved tried a few on-line but they won't accept my BFPO. I guess even if they do,I probably won't pass the credit rating cause even though I have a UK bank account, my own UK house (rented so can't send post there), my great credit rating ended when I left the UK (this is from one of the credit rating agencies who refused me a credit card last year!)
Would be grateful for any advice from anyone. many thanks for listening to my rant!

  • I thought it was voluntary to sign up to the VbV thing.

As for accepting BFPO addresses, I know the Nationwide do. We were with them for years until they decided to close our account.

It can be a pain being at a BFPO address - its one of the reasons we cant get our credit report from Experian because it doesnt recognise the BFPO addresses we lived at.
  • thank you for your reply. Certain companies like Next use VBV and unfortunately if you don't sign up by the 3rd time then you can't pay bills or buy goods as you need to get the authority from your bank, which then doesn't recognise your postcode even thought they are happy to take my money every month.
Will go and give Nationwide a go. I know many companies are happy to switch to a BFPO address if you originally have a UK one, It seems the probelm is when you want to start up a new account.

i am with abbey national and pay my kays bills with vbv - no problems. i am in bfpo 39. it took a while for the catalogue to change my address to bfpo but now all seems ok.
  • thanks. Do you remember if you first activated VbV with your BFPO no as your postcode? Would be interested to know your reply as Abby and my bank are both part of the Santader so if can do for one why not the other?

  • Sometimes you have to fiddle about with the way you put the bfpo address in I found.

    That might help.
