Hi,
I have set up a wireless network on XP using linksys kit and I am curentlysharing internet. I am using wireless network monitor software supplied with the linksys, and I would like to set up the network so I can share files or share printers.
I would appreciate it if anyone could give a step by step guide from the beginning on how to do this.
Thanks
Jonathan

I hope you are using wpa encryption, otherwise you'll end up sharing your files with everyone in the street

right click on your c: drive in explorer, and then click sharing. same with the printer. the pc with the printer will need to be switched on when someone else needs to print, the only way around this is to buy a wireless usb port/print server.
I'm assuming that you have a usb printer, not parallelEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Right, I still can't get file sharing to work. The ethernet cable from NTL goes into the router next to the main computer downstairs. A wired ethernet cable then goes into the back of that computer. I then have a USB adapter for the computer upstairs. Now on the main computer it appears that there is no network on that computer, as it only says on network connections that there is an internet connection. Also, if you share a file, where should it appear on the other computer. Does anyone know how I can get this working?
Thanks

Click Start/My computer/My Network Places (left hand side of page). Then click Set up home or small office network and follow the instructions. You need to do this on each computer and you'll be sorted.
When all done, the shared files/drives/printers will be available to see in My network places (which should have appeared on the right hand side of start menu).
They will only show up when other computers are switched on.0 -
Do you have a firewall installed / Windows XP one? This might be stopping access.

You cannot access shared files and folders or browse computers in the workgroup
On Windows XP-based computers that are configured as members of a workgroup in a peer-to-peer network environment, you may experience one or more of the following behaviors:
•You cannot access shared folders or files.
•You cannot locate other computers in the workgroup.
•You receive the following error message when you double-click the workgroup in My Network Places:
