I'd just like to say that midiwives are trying so hard to promote and help with breastfeeding. By putting this thread up can really hinder the progress that is currently being made to inform people of the potential harmful nature of these formular milks. The milk companies are not allowed to advertise milk to newborns but for some reason or other they can still get away with advertising follow on milks.
All women have the right to choose for themselves how they want to feed their baby. But trying to misguide women into beliveing that artificial milk is equal to breastmilk is causing many probelms. By helping these companies advertise on this forum is very upsetting and just shows how huge companies with lots of power and money are always influencing our decisions.
If i could find a way of contacting Martin i would very much like to bring this issue up with him, so that no further harm can possibly be done by the extra advertisment of formular milk.0 -
Sorry you feel this way but my baby was breast fed then bottle fed at 4 weeks everyone has the right to choose so advertising does not affect that right it just gives info.0

i too am sorry you feel like this ktscards, but your post both upset and annoyed me. i felt presurised to breast feed both my children which i did try, my eldest would not feed and it was 2 days before i gave in and gave him formula, purely because it was the best thing i could do for him as he was becoming ill. my youngest is now 18 weeks and was breastfed for 8 weeks constantly, that was the hardest and most stressful 8 weeks of my life as he was not gaining weight and had to go back to hospital he screamed all the time and would not settle i was exhausted not sleeping and dreaded the professionals visiting cos they made me feel like a bad mother i was still feeling pressured by midwife and health visitors to continue with the breast feeding. i tried. i really did but it does not work for everyone. 2 weeks after starting bottle feeding my son slept through the night 7pm - 8am and has done ever since he is contented now i am more relaxed i have more time to spend with my eldest child and both my children are healthy, thriving intelligent and happy kids. which makes me happy too. yes, breastfeeding is good but what some people do not understand is that it does not work for everyone, it is usually people with no kids of their own or people who did not have trouble with feeding themselves who have the opinion that they are superior and everyone who bottlefeeds is in the wrong so why shouldnt formula companies advertise? why shouldnt they offer freebies?? you say yourself that all women have the right to choose for themselves how they want to feed their baby but what about those who dont have a choice? formula has not done my children any harm.
im sorry but that is my experience i dont want to offend anyone but i believe we are all entitled to an opinion0 -
sorry i got a bit carried away there, erm... great freebie, thanks!!0

I am sorry but I disagree. My wife recently gave birth to our wonderful wee boy but for whatever reason the breastfeeding did not work out for them. The decision to give up was probably one of the hardest things she had to do as she felt like a failure due to the pressure being placed on her by midwifes who presumably have targets to meet for the number of new mum's who breastfeed. In all of the anti-natal classes you get told breast is best, all the posters in the hospital have this theme too but I know of two or three other new mums who have now got post-natal depression brought on by the pressure to feed their babies themselves.
I think a more balanced view should be given by midwifes, information should be given on the problems that are often encountered.
Since going on the bottle my wee boy has thrived, he is putting on weight, is happy and healthy.
From what I have seen breastfeeding may be the most natural thing in the world but it is not necessarily automatic...
Thanks for the freebie... I will be sending off for it.0 -
Don't forget, some people (like a close member of my family) have no choice but to go onto powdered milk as their body doesn't produce enough milk for the baby. I agree breastmilk is the best option, but some people aren't fortunate enough to have that option.0

I couldnt breastfeed my daughter (who is now 8 weeks old) because not only did I have to take medication for an infection - but my milk supply was very low. I did try to breastfeed before the infection, but it would end up with me and baby being in tears. If I had continued, I believe I would have had full-blown PND.
My midwife didnt try (totally) to force down the 'breast is best' message, because they believed that I should feed her whichever style (either by breast of formula) is the most comfortable (for mum & baby), then stick to it. That way, it will produce a happier mother and baby.
I bottle feed my daughter, and she is around 11 1/2lb now - and thriving.0 -
ooooh i really dont understand some people

i hardly think a free box or eazy pack is going to have any influence on whether you decide to breast feed or use formula ???
for those of us who do use the C&G formula milk - the box will come in handy
thanks v much kirsty1
i ordered mine for my baby nephew's milk
but when she asked me the date of birth - my mind went blank !!!
