HI All
First time on here posting. I have justhad my telephone appt with CCCS and gone through things. I thought we would need to declare BR and they agreed.
I suffer from severe depression and the one thing that's bothering me the most is the possible loss of my car. We just wrote our old one off and got £1150 after excess for it. We bought a new one for £1250.
We live rurally and if the car went I don't know what I'd do. Myhusband has to take me out regularly or else I don't leave the house at all. We're 10 miles from the nearest supermarket but my OH walks to work at the school.
CCCS told me that they might take the car tell me to get buses or to move house (we're renting) to somewhere else if we can't get about where we are, which seems ridiculous considering the cost of moving. Some posters here are saying that anyting under 2K is ignored, some who have a £400 car are losing it.
Without it I feel trapped and I know that I would seriously consider suicide if it was taken. I know that's a trrible thing to say and hard to explain to anyone not suffering with depression but I just couldn't bear it.
If anyone can offer any hope, or ways or speaking to the OR in a way that might help us keep it (not lying of course), I would be so grateful.

Hi and welcome to the board

I know it's quite long, but get yourself a cup of tea/coffee/whatever and have a read of this: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1056247
I don'r know a lot about cars in BR (it never effected us) but from what I've read, you need to be able to prove to the OR that the car is "essential" and not just "convenient". In the worst case scenario and he/she disagrees with you then you should be given the option to "buy" the car back from the OR.
HTH a little

i think you could explain what you just said about how you would feel if you had no car.
but it is really the luck of the draw when OR are concernd really as my car is only worth around £400 and my nan is a dependant but im not allowed it, as its not used for work
BUT you will be able to make an offer on the car to keep it anything up to 50% of the parkers guide price if the wont allow it. so dont worry if they say you cant have it you can buy it back

Thanks everyone. Can anyone tell me what Parkers price they use? Private sale, trade in etc?0

Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately I've had depression for many years so it's kinds got beyond the samaritans stage. They're really not that great and you have to tell them everything every time you talk to them. I just hope I get a good or.MY frined who lives round the corner got a horrible on at plymouth office and I'm scared we'll get the same guy. I thought I could cope with all this until today. Now we have to apply for HB to help us find the money to go BR in the first place, and its just getting so complicated now. I've just had enough.Jeez. Sorry I know so many have been through it there but when you go through it yourself it's always harder than you expect it to be.0

If it's any consolation, I am pretty much in exactly the same boat as you and it looks like I am about to go BR myself so think of mine as a virtual hand you can hold as you go through yours too - and if I can get through this (pretty sure I can) then so can you
Doesn't stop it from being scary (I know!) but it's not the be all and end all
So chin up and let's both look forward to being free of all these debt worries

HI Sieve,
That was a lovely thing to say - I'd love that. You hold my hand and I'll hold yours. I realise I've come accross as very self pitying haven't I. I suppose it just all became real and I got scared. I don't know if there's a way we can excahnge emails but if you ever want to talk to me I'll be around for you.
Good luck with eveything and keep me posted on this thread and let me know how it pans out and I'll do the same .0 -
Ladymiss you are never alone with all the lovely people on this board. I know I have been in tears while writing on here and someone has always answered my questions. It is hard, harder still I think when you know BR is on the way but, there is something making you wait until you can actually do the deed, so to speak.
You are not alone and it is only that thought that sometimes keeps me going. Money Talks ...but all mine ever says is Goodbye! :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks Spender - that's really comforting. It just sounds like your going to be exposed and judged in the worst way doesn't it. This is all because my husbands business is going under and so we don't have the income to keep paying our rather woeful debts. I hope maybe I'll get lucky and it will work out, as I know it has done for some. I think everyone on here is amazing for coping with debt and supporting one another. Maybe one day I'll be able to look back and laugh at all this.
