Boiler quote

I have a quote for a new boiler of £2,250, which is to clean Central heating system with Sentinel X800 and remove old combi and fit a new Worcester junior combi boiler. I live in a 3 bed with 1 bathroom house in Birmingham. I reckon this is a bit on the steep side. What are peoples thoughts? Also are Glowworm Combi boilers any good?

cheers

    Expensive, imho.

GW are OK, a bit plasticky maybe. Vaillant would be a better choice or the WB CDI range.

We are looking to replace our CH boiler.

Currently have a back boiler which is about 30 years old.

We have a 4 bed semi with 10 radiators. What sort of boiler should we be looking for? Does it have to vent out (i.e. be on an outside wall) or can I put it upstairs in my airing cupboard (on landing backing onto bedroom).

the boiler that you have been qouted for is around £800 at trade value .... main boiler ( which is a good boiler ) which will do the same job for £550 trade ...... cleaing out the system is about £20- £25 for the stuff to do it with .... this price is cheaper than some.... but i would shop around a little 1st you should be aiming for around £1800.... definately make sure that its a FIXED price for this work .... if they are stripping out anything made of copper ask to keep it ( or if its included in the quote) copper has gone up in value ()ALOT)

well the truth is that they will send round a sub contractor.... who british gas will pay half that amount too.... the sub contractor will have between 2-4 men( often un skilled low paid) putting in radiators attaching the gas boiler to the wall doing your pipework / plumbing .... then on the final day 1 x gas engineer .. corgi reg will commission the boiler and check their work ..
