Insuring water supply pipes

I have had a letter from Scottish Water offering me a policy for Water Supply Pipe Cover to cover repairs needed to the pipe from my property boundary into the house.
Now I understand the need for and have Home and Contents Insurance, Car Insurance and Travel Insurance.
My question is do I need this Pipe Insurance?

Your home insurance more specically your Building Insurance will cover the pipes within the boundary of your home (The pipes outside the boundary of your home are the water boards responsibiliy).
Your building insurance will normally cover the pipes you are responsible for perils such as accidental damage (Say your digging a patio and your spade hits the pipe), subsidence, heave, landslip, fire or root ingress (It is common for certain types of tree such as willows damaging the pipe if they are planted to near the pipe and do not have a good source of water).
Your home insurance will not cover wear and tear of the pipe which is basically the pipe disintergrating due to its age or wear.
It really depends on what the water board policy covers as it will normally cover the above although I assume it excludes "wear and tear", what the premium is and how much the excess is (The amount you pay towards a claim).
You need to think how much the premium is and how much you will pay in premiums over say a ten year period.
I hope this helps0 -
Thanks, dacouch. I'll check my house insurance.0

I got a letter today from Scottish Water, the thing that worries me about it is......is that it looks very official, but is addressed to my son who lives with me and seems to me to be an advert for HOMESERVE. A box on the letter states that my £10 Homeserve voucher is enclosed and thatany enquiries regarding this mailing please contact HOMESERVE
I'm the homeowner and I reckon Scorrish Water or HOMESERVE have checked the electoral roll and have just assumed:mad: that my son is the homeowner.
I think this letter is really misleading and was going to ring the number given to complain...........but will also check out my buildings insurancecheerio hen0 -
