Ikea Kitchen Installation - Appliances

Hi

After two years of hard saving I'm finally able to order my Ikea kitchen.

However, on the website it gives a list of installation costs but when it comes to appliances it says:

"Installation of an IKEA Appliance in accordance with manufacturers guideline and current legislation"

Does this mean they won't install appliances that are bought elsewhere? I really don't want Ikea appliances as I have my own hob, oven and washing machine and my mum's buying me a dishwasher that's the same as hers (she's very satisfied with hers).

Has anybody used them to install non-Ikea appliances and, if so, did they charge the same or more?

Thanks in advance.

Do not use Ikea to install the kitchen.

You need to find yourself a kitchen fitter by recommendation or otherwise - you will save yourself a small fortune. The prices charged by anyone selling kitchens is simply outrageous and there is no guarantee of quality on their fitting either, they don't exactly hire master craftsmen. I always believe that if someone in the trade is good at their job then they will be working for themselves, never working for someone else.

Good point. I just figured that their own workmen would know their kitchens better than anybody else as people seem to think that Ikea kitchens are different to others.

I'll definitely get a couple of independent quotes before I make a decision though.

    Thanks.

  • We had an Ikea kitchen installed last year by their fitter but we used all our own appliances - oven, hob, extractor, fridge/freezer, dishwasher. The fitter even had to make a bespoke unit to house our oven as Ikea didn't do a carcass for an under counter double oven.

So yes, they will install appliances bought elsewhere. And I think they charged the same, I certainly don't recall any extras for non-Ikea appliances.

  • Hi, there. I went to Ikea the other week to order a kitchen. My girlfriend and I spent four hours there. Guys were very helpful, talking us through the options. Total - INCLUDING - appliances, came to a paltry £1500. Ikea's installation - which has 20% off till the end of this week -was just another £2,500. So 4k in total - great, I thought.

Their measuring person came over. Measured up, and sent us a revised plan. We asked them to remove old kitchen and put my wooden floors down. For some reason, they've added installation costs for washing machine (£200), dishwasher (£200), and a million other things that ranging from "isolation valves" for the dishwasher (£30), to plumbing for a sink strainer (£100) and skip hire (£370). All in, the "extra" installation costs come to almost £4k!!!! Yes, on top of the £4k I was already due to pay Ikea for "basic installation" and the kitchen itself. My eyes nearly popped out.

We still want to stick with Ikea kitchen, as it is genuinely good value (a Danish friend who's a financial analyst has even researched the subject and found Ikea to be easily the best value - they have one themselves!). But clearly we want to find a fitter that doesn't take the p***. Can anyone help? Or should we just try our luck with a Building Federation Approved Kitchen Installer?

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers
