I hope that an official comment from Chiltern Railways will be welcome! Thank you to all of you for highlighting this to us – we have forwarded your comments to our operational teams. Super off peak tickets are valid on trains arriving in London Marylebone after 13.45hrs (Sun- Mon), or leaving London between 11.00hrs-15.30hrs or from 20.00hrs (Monday-Friday), or after 1100hrs (Saturday-Sunday).
We do take fraudulent travel very seriously. Our Revenue Protection Team has just been reinforced to ensure that we can cover more trains and make sure that we catch people who are not only cheating the company, but are also cheating honest passengers. I’m glad that one of the people posting on this thread has seen them in action…Take the risk at your peril!
We do have some great value tickets, so if you haven’t already checked these out then just visit us at www.chilternrailways.co.uk/tickets-and-fares.0 -
I have removed some posts and would like to echo that MoneySavingExpert.com is about LEGAL money saving. We certainly do not condone fraud / abuse of any ticketing system

Ok obviously missed alot of stuff. Anyway I have another question if someone would be kind enough to answer it.
When I book the ticket I have to select a time to travel. So say I choose the train at 10:54 can I then get a later train. Obviously I can't get one of the fast trains since the ticket isn't valid for them but am I free to get on another of the slow ones?0 -

If you get the 'super off peak' ticket then yes it's flexible and no you don't have to stick to any train you happen to reserve a seat on. If you're talking Stoke to MK you will be restricted to London Midland trains, but you have a choice of times and even routes (the direct route via Nuneaton is best, but it's also valid via Birmingham if you fancied going that way).
Why do you say you have to select a time to travel? For an open ticket it's not necessary to book a specific train and the website shouldn't force you to do so. Use the nxec booking site and click on the relevant fare and it will say 'only select a specific service if you want to reserve a seat'; you can get it without a reservation if you haven't yet chosen when to go.0 -
When booking on the London Midland website I enter the details of my journey which is a return. It then shows some of the trains I could get. Then I click check tickets and availability and I'm shown all the possible ticket options. To select the super saver return and get through to pay for it I have to select a valid train to go out on and a valid train to come back on. That's why I was wondering if I was tied into those times.0

Right, I see now. No you're not tied, but for future reference the nxec site is much easier to use and I recommend you use it instead. For one thing it avoids that problem and the resulting confusion!0
