free places for three year olds

Hi just wondering if anyone knows if the free places that you get when your child is three effects the amont of Tax credits you get ? And if so isn't it unfair that they give it with one hand and take it away with the other!

Cheers x

  • I don't think so. My daughter has a free nursery place and it has not affected our tax credits.

Are you talking about getting help via the tax credit system with childcare? When your child is 3 they will get upto 12.5 hours funding. Your costs will reduce accordingly so so will your tax credits.
If you don't get childcare help from tax credits your entitlement won't be affected.

This doesnt affect your tax credits. Every child is allowed five two and half hour sessions for 33 weeks per year (school time) , the term after their third birthday.

The childcare that you are thinking about is the kind that you get through child tax credits to help you to work,
