Is this property a registered HMO?
7 people to one property sounds to me like it certainly should be.
With this in mind, It my understnading that bills should be included, in order to minimise the effectsof poeple sharing who do not know/like/ agree to co-operate with each othe.r
Hopefully TBS should be on soon, he is a mine of info on tenancies, and hopefully should be able to help you.
No legal obligation to include bills. Just the fire safety/no. of toilets etc...0 -
I think there is an obligation to include the council tax. But not the other bills.barnaby-bear wrote: »No legal obligation to include bills. Just the fire safety/no. of toilets etc...0 -

OP's gripe is that they entered her room with out permission to switch everything off and then harrased her..
OP should buy a large machette and pull it out on her next visit.
or Buy some fizzy limeade drink half of it.. pee in the bottle.. leave it on the side in the kitchen
No one will touch your stuff again

Sorry to hear you have had a bad time, although I do agree with others that you have not helped yourself.
It is the case that you agreed to move in for the whole year and must now pay all the bills, pretty much regardless of use.
Part of the point of housesharing is to learn to deal with conflicts which are inevitable with people living together. You might like to consider if you have handled this situation well from the outset and what you might learn from it. Which is not to say that you are at fault, but it is always worth considering what you can do differently.
I think the mere fact you haven't spent much time around them is likely to have created a divide between them and you probably had no allies when people complained about the split of the bills which would have made you an easy target. Perhaps if you share a house again you should make time to interact with the people in it rather than just hiring a store room. It might also be worth offering some money for your partners place.
In terms of your current situation you are stuck with the rent and might find it hard to relet and so are in a tough spot. If I were you I would try and make ammends with some of the more reasonable fellow shares, lock your room and carry on much as you are, accept trying to pay more of the bills.0 -
Student advice has advised me to advertise my room elsewhere, which I will be doing today.
Yes, I pay bills at my boyfriend. Its amazing how many people 'assume' that I dont!
I will be continuing to pay £30 a quarter. £10 Direct debit set up.
Neas: You are definitely right. £30 is too much considering we dont have a telephone and internet is included in our rent.
Little Miss Aspie: please read all of my posts. I have paid all of my rates at time bills came in. have set up DD for bill payment in advance. My comment about just paying water was in my arguement about why I should pay utility bills when i dont use them. I did live there from day one but because it is a bad environment and I do not feel emotionally able to deal with it at this time, I retreated to my Boyfriends to avoid the rows which didnt even involve me. I gave my key to someone i trusted to just lock my door after builders but they breached this trust. this person then harassed me. Hope you are less confused. The £30 was a seventh of this months. Considering my last few payments, bills came to under £16 therefore it makes me very angry! Bills shouldnt have been more than £20 this quarter. Can you see that i was taken for a ride.
sooz: Love the drum kit comment...hope i find someone noisy too
tbs624: My mother has spoken to LL and he is very unhappy with the situation. It turns out my HM have been pestering him to retain my bond and split it between HM. He is angry with my HM and wants permission to have a word with them. I am debating this as i dont know if it is more hassel than its worth?
Ulfar: i am aware i am responsible for a certain amount of the bills and have conceeded that i will continue to pay them if you please read posts carefully. yes i contribute to partners bills. I am not a stingy person, honest! Like i have said...bills have been paid in full by me, they have even been too much and have subsidised other peoples, how many times do i have to repeat?
gggareth: Love it
You summed it up in one sentence!
So situation now means: I look for a replacement HM and continue with my £10 monthly direct debit. Thanks for help.
Thanks again MoneySavers x0 -
Hi Claire
This I may Know what is confusing people.
You are currently paying £30 a quarter as your 1/7 share of bills
This would mean that your house is spending £840 a year (30x7x4) on gas, elec and water or £70 a month between you, £10 each
You then say you should only have been paying £8 a quarter on bills which would mean a house spend of £224 a year or £18.67 a month or £2.67 each
This is on a 7 bed house
Now I live in a 3 bed shared house and we pay £150 a month on gas, elec and water (we have just had to up from £140 as we were £150 behind owing to price increases)
This is a house spend of £1800 a year on gas, elec and water between 3 adults so £150 a quarter each on a 3 bed house with us all working during the day. This is not inc phone or internet etc.
I think this may show how much you are out on your estimation of the cost of running a house and maybe why your housemates are annoyed.
This is not a dig at you but if you can't find someone to take over the lease you may need to sit together as a group and work out how much it actually costs and what everyones share should be.I am a Mortgage Adviser
