Hello all
Sorry if this is a silly question -
I've had an Amex Platinum card for a few weeks now and on the website it says "spend up to £4,000", whereas when i log in to the online account it says the credit limit is £2,000.
Just wondered if anyone knew why that was.
Cheers

Max cashback is £200 in first 3 months.
£200 is 5% of £4,0000 -
Not what they were asking YB I don't think:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips/04-02-2009/[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Last Chance! Insider Info. Amex to cut its 5% cashback deal on 10 Feb. Grab it now!
The massively market leading Amex Platinum* pays new cardholders 5% cashback on up to £4,000 spent for the first three months, then up to 1.5% afterwards. So use it for all spending & pay it off in full each month and you can earn £100s a year for nowt. What's changing? I've been tipped off that on Tue 10 Feb the intro deal will be cut, so the 5% cashback will only apply to the first £2,000 spent, meaning potentially £100 less cashback. Is there still time? All accepted applications (it has a min. income £20k rule) before then will still get the current deal, so apply ASAP if you want it. Are you confusing your cashback cap (i.e. the max amount of spend you can earn 5% cashback on) with your credit limit?

Not quite the same query but today when I applied for a card for my husband it states at the top conditions for eligibility and one of them is to pay a fee of £300. What is this for and is it standard on all Platinum cards?0

As has been said before, if you keep 'paying off' your account you can increase your cashback amount even if you have a low credit limit.
ie. pay off your balance online even if before the end of the month.0 -

I noticed that when we applied as well, but this is for a different type of platinum CC where there is a fee, it works very differently, I think you can use that one to access stuff like first class lounge when waiting for flights and things.
I remember seeing a thread somewhere when a man was very annoyed that he was not allowed in the lounge and was going to complain...until he realised that the platinum cash back was a different card.
Quite confusing having two cards that look and sound so similar.
When you apply for the AMEX 'cashback' CC it clearly says 'no fee' so make sure you apply for the cashback one, by following the link, and you should be fine!0 -
Just for your info, if you are thinking of applying for this Amex platinum cashback card, apply through Quidco as it offers £34 cashback for applying through them. I only realised this too late !0

So if your credit limit is £2000, you can earn 5% of £2000 each month.
The £4000 figure, OP, relates to the total amount of spend on which you will earn the 5% cashback before it reverts to the standard 0.5%/1%/1.5%. So if you spent £2000 for two months (i.e. spent up to your credit limit), you would have reached the maximum amount on which you will earn 5% cashback.0
