parked in disabled space unwittingly

this is the 2nd time i have done this in as many months - im very embarassed.

the 1st was a bS private parking firm, this time it was city council so i know they have teeth - im happy to pay it to be honest but thought i would check in to see what you guys think.

i needed to visit the bank, i pulled up along side and saw the disabled signs so drove on - i found an area with pay and display and parked up - i purchased a ticket and went about my business.

now its snowing heavy here as it is in many places and its causing slippy conditions and obscured vision - i didnt notice that my car was in a disabled zone right next to the pay and display area - there are no signs on lamposts here just a "disabled drivers only" painted along the road aprox 5 car lengths - i cant be sure that it was snow covered on arrival but it definately wasnt 100% clearly visible when i returned to the car.

what do you think? should i dispute or just cough up? its £35 if i pay now and £70 if i pay after 14 days - trouble is im off on my honeymoon on Monday and wont be back for 2 weeks so im figuring best just to pay now before i go - it was an honest mistake but if i wasnt in such a rush perhaps i would have noticed.

Scan the WHOLE ticket and someone will take a look for you. Can we also see the bays and the signs, please?
  • sorry no pics of scene as i drove off feeling stupid and intending to pay it, its only since that i have re-considered and thought i would seek advice.

the layout was a long pay and display bay for aprox 5 cars then a new block for disabled, the only signage was painted writing on the road which was obscured by vehicles and snow, i just wouldnt have parked there if i knew it was disabled.

    no scanner but digipics here:-

Can you revisit the scene and take some photos of the bay markings and the signs?

And better pics of the ticket would assist, although someone will probably be along who knows the wording on Birmingham tickets anyway, and will know if they are correct or not.

    It's all important stuff, though.
