New Boiler v 2nd Hand Boiler Hi Folks,
I put this in the Gas and Elec board but probably better here, apologies if already read.
Looking for your opinion on my personal dilemma. I currently have a 21 year old 'normal' boiler which still works but is on it's last legs.
I was given a 4 year old combi boiler(Glowworm 30kw) from a workmates dad who was upgrading to a 37kw boiler.
I got a local heating engineer in to give me a price to replace my existing boiler with the afore mentioned boiler. He quoted me £1150 to use the boiler that i had. This would be all pipework, flush out the system and move to my utility room(existing boiler is in Kitchen in a fitted cupboard).
He also gave me a price of £2150 to fit a new boiler. This would be a Bosch Worcester Junior 28 which comes with a 5 year warranty.
Now this would be an 'A' rated boiler which the 2nd hand one isn't.
What i'am thinking is that i pay BG £17 pm for the Homecare 200 which is £204 py. Over 5 years = £1020. Now this is the difference in price from installing a new boiler to the 2nd hand one.
Do you think it is worth it to install a new boiler and cancel the Homecare 200 or use the 2nd hand one and keep it going?
Opinions appreciated.
Stevie

Good morning: New boiler with good warranty (this will require annually servicing to maintain) wins hands down. If you must go with a WB, have the CDi over the Junior...superior boiler and should add a bit to the quote (£150 ish pounds?). Your system should have a chemical flush, and the RGI should fit a Magnaclean/Boiler Buddy as well as a scale inhibitor in hard water areas eg. the southeast .Cancel the Homecare and self-insure i.e. put aside a bit each month to pay for the annual service and the inevitable repairs after the warranty has expired. Your RGI should check mains flow/pressure and gas supply to see if both are adequate for the combi's requirements.

Thanks for the replies.
Pretty much confirming my thoughts about going with the new boiler. I thought the quote was pretty reasonable. Having checked out some prices online for the boiler, i assumed a cost of around a grand to completely install was fair is it not?0 -

Hi...cost is dependent on the work and materials required...every installation is different as is the standard of the installation. For example, the OH is fitting a combi to replace a combi. The old combi's flue hole is too close to the eaves (part of soffit and fascia had been cut out by the original installer:eek:) so the OH will need to drill a new flue hole....gas supply is insufficient so he'll have to upgrade that from the meter in the front of cellar to the boiler at the rear of the house in 28 mm copper. Power flush (4 rads + towel rail) took half a day. He'll also have to rewire the boiler's electrical supply, install new controls/ 2 TRVs and insulate the ground floor heating pipes....in all adds up in terms of time and materials.
