Best credit card for free extended warranty

I was thinking of buying a 400 GBP TV. I was going to buy online to get the cheapest price, but in the current climate I am worried about claiming back against a website that may go bust at any moment!

Therefore, I will buy by credit card to get joint protection under the Sale of Goods act. Anyway, some credit cards automatically give you some extended warranty, as long as you register the goods with them within a specified period of time.

Can anyone tell me which cards offer this? This will be the one of the most expensive purchases I have ever made, so it could be worth me changing credit card for...

since all UK electrical goods have a 12 month warranty, and given that the nationwide give a 12 month warranty according to the link, would this only give me added protection in the event that both the retailer and the manufacturer went bust?

The Ulster Bank Gold Card gives a free extended warranty for a year after the manufacturers warranty. https://www.ulsterbank.co.uk
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

The 12 month warranty offered by Nationwide is in addition to the manufacturer and/or store warranty.

So, for example, I've just purchased a digital video camera from John Lewis. Sony give the warranty for the first year, John Lewis then provide another years warranty, and then Nationwide will provide the third years warranty.

Conditions of the Nationwide warranty state that they will only offer free warranties if the warranty provided with the product is two years or less.

I've always used the Nationwide card to buy my electrical items, but to be fair I've never had to make a claim, so I don't know how good they are.

By the sounds of it you should be ok with your TV purchase though - registration needs to be within 60 days of purchase IIRC.

great - so nationwide and ulster bank both do an additional year.

do any of following cards have this (so my girlfriend could buy it for me)?
    lloyds tsb
    citibank
    abbey
    virgin
    egg
    barclaycard
    mint
  • I was just about to post a thread asking exactly the same thing, so I'm glad I spotted this one first ;)

Given that I'm looking to spend about £1200 on a TV, does anyone know of any cards that offer both an extended warranty and cashback? Might as well take free money if I can!
