Yes. I don't know about prepay but with a credit meter, you get a choice between paying more for the first x units or a daily standing charge. I know prepay meters can have a standing charge, not sure if they can have the two tier pricing. If you have the choice, no standing charge would probably be best for you, at least while you're renovating. Even though the first units would cost more than you pay now, you might pay less than paying daily even when you're not using any electricity.0

Hi
It sounds like you have a prepayment meter is this correct?
If so, all prepayment meters have a daily standing charge, the amount of the standing charge varies depending on the area you live.
Standing charge is a cost passed on to energy suppliers from the networks; it is basically the costs of maintenance and upkeep for substations and power cables.
This cost has to be paid even if you are not consuming any electricity and this is why the meter still requires to be topped up regularly.
Credit meters (non prepayment) may or may not have a standing charge; this usually depends on the tariff. If you have a credit meter contact your supplier and see if they can offer you a no standing charge tariff, this will help save you money.“Official Company Representative

Not all prepayment meters have a standing charge - this is a choice of your supplier (maybe you too depending on supplier & region). Some older meters cannot cope with no standing charge, but if your supplier offers no standing charge on newer meters ask them to change yours.
Off the top of my head BG, SSE & Ebico have no standing charge for gas or ele PP (1rate). Others may have no standing charge for gas, but have one for electricity. I think SP gives you a choice for ele in Manweb & SP areas.
You can check this on a comparison site - look at the details at the end.
You may be better off with a standing charge tarif, it all depends on your situation.0
