Trying to get voluntary redundancy
Comments
-
...and a point that hasnt been raised to date is that I have the feeling that firms may not legally be allowed to make people compulsorily redundant - without having gone through asking who wishes for voluntarily redundancy first.).
This is not true as my firm gave notice to about 200+ that their job is at risk and there is a three month consultation period.
The firm did not ask choose the voluntary redundancy route as they had identified areas/departments where they expected there to be overcapacity in the coming months. They also did not want the risk of losing talented staff etc...
The company would have to go through a fair process in order to identify the staff that they let go. This is because during the consultation period the process can be challenged if deemed unfair and individual staff can appeal the decision.
There is no harm in asking whether they would consider voluntary redundancies in the first instance in your department but I would not give any indication that you want to take up the offer until they confirm they will accept.0 -
I take it the rest of the team will be working their socks off to not be in the lowest 30%, as long as your performance doesn't drop so much that they sack you, can't you take things a bit easy and aim for that lower 30%?I have been thinking about leaving my job for a while now as I do not like the industry and would love to do something different. I am not sure whether I will be in the lowest 30% of my team performance-wise so I was wondering whether to broach voluntary redundancy with my managers regardless of the firmwide policy.0 -
Thank you all very much for your thoughts and suggestions. My firm have now said that they WILL consider voluntary redundancy but they can say no. I'm going to give it a go and hope they don't say no and then make my life miserable!! Thanks again.
