planning permission front entrance?

we currently live in an end-terrace which has a side entrance.

the front has a single double glazed window.
were thinking of blocking the side entrance and putting in the front door at the front of the property.

does this require planning permission?

Would have thought that would be Ok as long as your not extending the building line at the front of your property BUT is the side entrance allowing fire escape routes from a hallway giving access/egress to several rooms? maybe an issue if so. Be safe, speak to a registered builder - ask for a quote for the work.

If you're just putting in a door, then no - it won't require planning permission as that won't materially affect the appearance of the property, thus not being 'development'. If you want a porch outside it, then that may be permitted development (i.e. not requiring you to submit a planning application), provided it is no more than 3 sqm external floor area, is no more than 3m in height and is more than 2m from the highway boundary.

The issue raised above regarding fire escape routes etc, is an issue for building regulations, not planning.
