P60 to tax office

Hi

Leaving my job to go self employed, can i send off my P45/P60 to local tax office to claim refund or to check etc.

Is this standard practise

  • Your previous employer will send your P45 to the tax office. You should retain your copy as you will need this information when you do your tax return, this info goes in the section on employed income, when you take all your earnings for the year into account the tax you have already paid is deducted from the total you are due to pay.

    P60 is issued in respect of a tax year. So the last one was for year ending 5 April 2008 and nothing to do with current year and refund of tax for this year.

    You won't get a P60 for the year ending 5 Aprill 2009 (unless you are at that point working for an employer).
