I'm an IFA and westy said he didnt want advice from IFAs any more. Much better to get it from unknowns on an internet site. ;)

For god's sake, I'm not an unknown, I've explained numerous times that I'm a world-renowned marine biologist! ;)
    Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.

Jem i appreciate what you are saying i do infact have an IFA at the moment

Is that a different IFA from the one whom you have lodged a complaint against or is it the same one?
essentially i dont need the money for the next 5 years or so possibly longer this was my inheritance from my parents which is why i value it so much and would live nothing more than to get it back to the original figure and put it in a bank i really wish i had done that in the first place but you live and learn eh

Putting it in a bank has its problems too - like loss of real value through inflation.

Investing was the right idea but you need to understand what investing is all about. It's meant to be for the long term and you have taken cold feet after just two years.

    Its a different advisor

i dont have cold feet the funds did not meet my cautious risk profile, i did not want to take risks with it, i was naive i admit that i trusted the FA who advised me i should have got more advice but it was an emotional time.

if i had earned that money myself i would have been prepared to take calculated riska with it but as i didnt i wasnt hence my complaint.

I appreciate that and you were correct to complain.

However what I meant was more in relation to what you intend to do now. Even a cautious risk profile would have seen a loss although not as much. Would you accept that or will you be worried each time there is a fall?

i am more aware of things now but what i am trying to do is avoid further losses but not shoot myself in the foot by doing so, if i could have my original investment figure back it would all be going straight in the bank regardless of inflation!!

Cautious would have seen around 20% loss last year. Would that level have been acceptable to you?
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Hi mate, I am in no place to advise but I am in what looks to be a very similiar situation to you and my feet I am sure are just a cold at the moment however, I try as much as I can to watch/lisson to many different advisors (TV (Sky Bloomberg), Radio, Financial Advisors, etc) they all say investing in these areas are for the long hall and it will pick up again. I do not profess to know much about the investment world but I like to get as wide a opinion as possible. I have worked on gut feeling and calculated risk for many years and I have done ok. Not knowing the spread of investments you have but if they are wide enough one will pull up the other. Probably not much use other than moral support in time of need. Good luck!!

I dont need the money for anything at the moment hence i invested it long term

If you invested for the long term, why did you complain when your funds "fell" in the short term?

You made sure you made the fall into a loss by switching funds.

Feel sorry for the poor new IFA you are now abusing trust and time wise.
