Landlord has put locks on property

Hi,

I work at a "reputable" company that have had a bit of an embarassing situation.

I went into work today morning and noticed that the Landlords have put locks onto the doors of the building - This has caused massive losses to the company...Possibly big fines ontop. There was a notice @ the door saying:

"The Tenant's lease of this property has expired. The landlord has therefore recovered possession of the property. If you wish to recover the goods, please contact xxxx xxxx "

I'm guessing there was a problem between the landlord and the Boss of our company (who claims to have paid the rent).

The problem is employees have left some items in there that belong to them. Is there anyway in which they can get it back?

Can landlords do this?

Why don't you phone the number to recover whatever it is you need to recover?

Dunno about the rights and wrongs of whether they can do it, but seems from reading your post that they've no intentions of keeping anything that doesn't belong to them.

The term "goods" means to me the items that are owned and used in the course of doing business eg - stock for a shop.

The OP and his/her chums shouldn't have any problem getting their stuff back as long as it's clear it's their stuff not stock owned by the business I would have thought. It sounds like the LL is holding the contents to ransom for his rent. Not sure if fair or legal but probably effective

I would suggest calling the number and finding out what's what - Good luck!

The Landlord may serve the tenant with a notice to remove their possessions or they will dispose of them and deduct their costs accordingly. So your boss may have already been served and it is in your best interests to contact the number and retrieve your gear.

The company may well have paid the rent - but maybe the landlord was pushing for a rent increase (possibly applied retrospectively).

Call the number, they have to give you your stuff back, it doesn't belong to the company (though they may ask you to prove its yours).

getting your stuff back shouldn't be a problem, but if i was you i'd be more worried about the fact you may well not have a job now?????

Thankyou for the grammar lesson, I was only saying what I thought might help the OP.
