electric radiator of calor gas ???

i there.............ok we know its freezing:snow_laug
My living/dining room is one huge room. When i had new radiators (about 15 years ago 15 years less wiser)fitted i was informed the small radiator in my living room would be fine to heat the whole room ....the fact i had a bigger radiator in my bathroom did not cross my mind ? Was also informed i could not have a radiator in the other end of the room due to pipe work ?
Anywho...........i have the offer of a FREE plug in radiator but have heard they are expensive to run ? Would a calor gas heater be cheaper ? Can you still get them ? And finally........are they safe with 2 boys under 6 ?
Off to wrap my hands around a warm cuppa!

Depends on how much you use it, really. Any electric heating tends to be more expensive to run than gas. I used to have a Calor gas heater many years ago. It was fine, and not too expensive, but it did create a lot of condensation. I would also have reservations about using one with kids around.

Have you looked into replacing the radiator with a larger one, or adding another ? This is usually not too big a job, and it may well work out cheaper ( and more convenient ) in the long run. Might be worth getting a couple of estimates.

I always used to get mine from the local garage. I'm sure plenty of places sell them - garages, some DIY shops, or if you have a camping supply shop nearby they'll likely stock them.

Calor gas heat is not as dry aselectric fire heating. You also pay in advance so no big bills to follow. They give out a good heat too. Our local Homebase has refills.

If you have an existing central heating system then a larger radiator is the best choice. Will be far cheaper in the long term.
I would not use a portable gas heater in a house, due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks or fire. The gas cylinders are not that cheap. They get hotter than an electric radiator so are not suitable for use around children.

If you want an additional heater, get an electric one, either oil filled or convection. It should be a wall mounted type with small children, free-standing ones can be pulled over and are more likely to be touched.

Get another radiator fitted, far better in the longer term.
