first directory- travel, mobile phone insurance

hello all

I was wondering if any of you have taken up the firstdirectory service from first direct bank. this service is aimed at first direct bank customers at 9.50 per month. the services they offer include amongst others

comprehensive worldwide travel insurance for the family
mobile phone insurance for the individual
some discounts on european hotel chains, commission free travel money and currency, some savings at restaurants, attractions etc

essentially it works out at 114 pounds a year. my nationwide travel insurance is quoted at 110 pounds. i know egg offers travel insurance for 58 pounds at the moment. but they have invariably a higher excess than both nationwide and first direct. so in comparison to nationwide i get additional mobile phone insurance.

having banked with n'wide for a long time, i know that they will respond without aggravation to legitimate travel insurance claims. so i would like to know if any of you have used firstdirectory before and made claims. would you recommend it? thanks for your help

regards

Meera

  • Apparently, if you take out firstdirectory before 31/3/05 you will gain £20 cashback from First Direct. Does anyone have any experience of cancelling this after 30 days, then in effect gained a tenner for nought (according to terms it must be retained for a minimum of 30 days)

I've just been looking at this to see if its worth it for the travel insurance, or whether I should open an A&L account. Firstdirectory is subject to a 12 month contract. If you cancel within the first 12 months you have to pay the remaining balance.

The offer has almost expired now (valid only until 31/03/05), but the £20 cashback is only if it is taken out online.
