Mot

Hello All,

This is really stupid question!!!!
I have my first MOT on Saturday. I drive BMW 320D ES of March 2005.
I have serviced car regularly.

Kindly advise, What else do I need to do before MOT?
Is it necessary to service your car before MOT?
Where in Belfast can you get your car MOT wash?

Kindly advise
Regards

if you have had your car serviced reqularly i wouldnt worry, any problems and your mechanic would have probably informed you. If you have had it serviced recently i would just take it for its MOT. Dont get it serviced just for the sake of it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Make sure that you bring along the right paperwork would be my only advice. If it fails you can book a retest pretty easily so hopefully could get any work done. Oh and the other thing is make sure you get an MOT wash done.

For MOT wash I'd recommend the carwash at the Westwood shopping centre - it's just off the A55 as you go towards West Belfast - see here

I got an MOT wash done there a few weeks ago - it was done properly, cheap and since the car wash is beside ASDA you can pop in and do a bit of shopping while they're washing it.

Two of the common/simple failures is the headlight height settings/alignment and worn tyres
  • Be sure to have the MOT wash.. I got a bit of a "telling off" one year for not having it done.. Still passed though. I think they just don't like to get their hands dirty!!

The reason for the wash is, so they can inspect the brake pipes etc. If they are caked in mud they will presume there is corrosion present

    .
  • You might be best just to put it through without doing anything. If it fails the re-test will only look at the areas where it failed the first time.

For the wash, there's a car wash place at the bottom of the Cliftonville road that does the MOT washes for about 10 - 12 quid. There's another one on the woodstock road that about the same price.

What??.. you insinuating I live in a field:rotfl: :rotfl:

I hear that they are adding new tests to the MOT in the future.. like Brake Fluid test as apparently Brake Fluid should be changed after every few years (especially if your a hard braker) as it deteriorates if it heats up too much.. More money!!

    No. Road dirt I meant

Also brake fluid is Hydroscopic (absorbs moisture from air) leading to rust and needs to be changed according to the service intervals

There are plenty of places that do MOT washes, if you can be more specific about the area you live in or are getting the MOT carried out, then you should get a better response.

My car passed the MOT last week and the comment about headlights earlier is very valid, so get their alignment checked.
