Hello.

I have Sky broadband mid package which costs £5 a month on top of my Sky tv which is £46 a month(i have sports, movies and 6 tv packs). This makes a total of £51 a month.
I got a letter a few weeks saying that my broadband price will go up by £5 a month. If i add Sky talk freetime to my package it will stay the same price as i pay now.
Q-1.I have a BT line and use 1899 for my calls, will i still be able to use this service.

Q-2.Will i be able to use the 0870/0845 Nos. at weekends with BT and will they still be free.

Q-3.I am out of my 12 month broadband contract if i take up Sky freetime will i have to enter another 12 month contract.

Q-4.Is there any drawbacks if i take out Sky freetime.

Thank you in advance.
Vince

    1. Yes, if you leave your line rental with BT.

    2. No. Sky uses WCLI, not CPS so your use of the 1280 'hop back onto BT' prefix will not work and you'll have to pay Sky's excessive rates for such calls.

Update 3-8-09. Sky now includes 0870 calls in its Sky Talk call packages.

    3. Don't think so (but it'd be prudent to ask Sky to confirm that in writing).

    4. Yes, you'll no longer get free Caller Display and/or basic 1571 from BT because you will not be able to make the necessary 2 'qualifying calls' per month for that. Caller Display will then cost you £1.75/month and basic 1571 will cost you £1/month (prices increasing on 1-4-09).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Q1. You can keep your line rental with BT if you wish but if you take freetime your calls will go through sky.
Q2. You can take line rental and sky talk anytime with sky it is cheaper than BT and the price quoted include vat it will include all your calls that are free with BT, it also allows you to make calls to 20 international countries for free.
Q3. You will enter a new contract yes
Q4. if you use your phone in the day time or call internationally Id recommend sky talk anytime

if you move your line rental to sky £9.75 per month you will get 1571 and caller display free

i assume you can tell BT to cancel 1571 and caller display from your account so u pay the basic £10.50 line rental and then the rest to sky?

Yes. Save time though, do it online (see HERE). They'll acknowledge by email.

I thought BT was £11.75 and about to rise. If so there is £1.75 differnce plus the £5 that you wouldnt pay
Would you spend more than £6.75 a month in ringing 087 or 084 numbers
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

BT Online (PAPERLESS) Billing Line Rental is only £10.27 a month at the moment.

I think it's £11.50 at the moment minus the paper discount (which is £1.23 I think?)
Anyway it's rising by £1 to £12.50 on 1st April (so that's £11.25 after the £1.25 paper free discount).
Prices include VAT. Also assuming payment by direct debit.

Yes taking into account the recent reduction in vat,BT Line Rental using online (paperless) billing is now £10.27 a month with Direct Debit (£11.25 from 1st April).
