Cat, snow and fish....

  • I know for a fact our two are going on next door's communal lawn... but I'm not sure what to do about it. No-one has complained... yet. I would happily give all the flat owners water pistols if that's what it took :o

I have no idea where our cats go, but im not sure what i could possibly do to stop them! they had a litter box and both of them turned thier noses up at it (even when it was fresh clean stuff)
and it would be impossible to keep them in, they would squark and cry and get reallllly sneaky!
plus when we have had to keep them in before (for medical reasons) they still ignore the cat box and piddle on any clothes left on the floor!
im not putting up with all that just for some mad old woman who may or may not be right about it being my cats
    (personally...i hope it is!) lol
  • I personally would put in a anon call into the RSPCA telling them your neighbour should be investigated for any cat shootings in the area recently as he's threatened to shoot yours! Hopefully they'll bother him so much that it'll teach him a lesson not to mess with you, but then that's just me!:D

Whether your Cat took any Fish or not (And remember there's no proof which would be needed) Cats are hunters, it's what they do. Pond Owners should cover their ponds. Hopefully the neighbour was just mad & not thinking straight, the RSPCA won't do anything if he does call them. You offered to buy a net which is more than reasonable considering it's not proven to be your Cat, and no missing fish has been found anywhere. I agree with Lowis's post totally

i would expect his fish are in the debths of the pond keeping warm - i expect your cat went to the pond to get a drink but found it frozen and left. i am sure that your neighbours fish will be safe and return to the surface once the weather improves....... i pity you having such an upleasent neigbour.

I own 2 cats and have a fish pond that is not covered in 4 years I have not had one fish go missing ,and as others have said my cats would have to love diving because I have only seen my fish about twice all winter .
  • Is he a private owner or tenant? If the former then would report him to housing association or landlord...at very least I would report this to the police in case something does happen...nasty for you and he would seem quite unreasonable as refusing to cover pond - his choice but he has to take the consequences! Cant have it both ways...
Re cats that like water I have a british blue who does too...loopy!!Very embarassing when they poo on others land etc but if youve offered to pay for net etc then you have been more than reasonable while he has made threats of violence!! Good luck...

Seems about right - My fish have !!!!!!ed off to the bottom of the pond (Its about 6ft deep) - I might see them in the summer but my cats dont go anywhere near - everyone knows cats are allergic to water. I have problems with herons - I frequently come down in the early morning to see them fishing in the pond - they have also damaged the liner with their beaks and it now requires repairs - perhaps I should go and give the RSPB hell about this or shoot the herons? I can confidently predct that the police or RSPCA would be 100% uninterested they have enough real work to do so I wouldnt worry about repercussions. My neighbour used to throw stones at my cats til I caught him at it and I threw one back - he didnt do it again.
