Cavity Wall Insulation and Wall Vent

After a wait of 3 months from the so called survey they arrived to fill the cavity.
Unfortunately i was out so my wife was to cope with the following.
Have you had a survey ?
Yes !
Where's the hole the surveyor drilled ?
What hole!
He should have drilled a hole to get the depth and also if cavity suitable for insulation
Where do you want the vent to go
What vent
The vent we must fit by law 6" dia in your living room wall.
But we have a vent in the floor (wooden suspended with air bricks on both front and back walls) for the central heating
Not good enough you must have the hole in the wall vent.
As we have just decorated throughout the whole house and no guarantee that they would not end up making a 12" hole and causing no end of damage we did not go ahead.
As my wife took a day off loosing pay for the insulation to be done not only have we lost money, time and are no further forward then we were 3 months ago.
Is the insulator correct regarding the wall vent as i believe the floor vent is more than adequate.
Do we have grounds for some form of compensation regarding there so called survey not being carried out correctly and also not explaining the work that would have to be done adequately.
Any advise or experience appreciated.

My experience of the survey was that it was just some spotty 18 year old sales man. At my house he turned up, told me the price, drilled the wall and left.
I assume they want to put a vent in because of the type of heating you have in the living room? I had no vents fitted, and like you simply have air bricks to under the floor. Otherwise the chimney helps to vent the room.0 -
There is a vent on the floor close to the gas fire which includes a back boiler.
The vent gets it's unrestricted flow of air from beneath the floor which in turn is from outside the house through the air bricks on both front and back of the house. This more than satisfies the gas regs so the additional vent the insulation company want to fit is overkill and of course a money spinner costs an additional £60.0 -
I had a surveyor in on friday and he drilled a hole, but I didn't see where. He didn't mention a vent but we have no gas fire.0
