Are there any FREE music download sites out there or do they all cost a yearly fee, have had Limewire before but have heard it does bad things to your computer?

it's very cheap now to download from paying sites at least you know then its not illegal, as for Limewire, I am sure from what I have heard that this program just cloggs up your pc but then thats nothing compared to what the FBI will do to it when they trace you for illegal downloads, and one day they will, sometimes its best to pay for these things, instead of thinking that everything can be free off the internet, only at a price, your ISP will be forced to give the FBI your IP address for illegal downloads.
This of course in the event you get caught.
sorry for being abit harch...but these things are not free.
I buy cd's from HMV when they are in the sale.

Much as I agree with you that it's better to pay for music, what are the FBI going to do to you? Extradite you to the US for downloading some Coldplay songs? The FBI have no jurisdiction outside the US, and certainly can't force your ISP to do anything.

As for the OP, iTunes, Play.com and Amazon are all quite cheap and have DRM-free music. Just be aware that iTunes tracks are in AAC format, so you need a compatible player.

Thanks for the replies and the extra sarcasm off you David!!!!

I do buy CDs, I prefer albums than fakes, same with DVDs. I like the download sites to compile music onto one CD and search for music I woudldt of come across.

Cant say I knew Limewire was a fraudulent site.

I seldom buy songs from itunes, but when I did a few weeks ago, I was able to convert them to MP3 within itunes (locally)

iTunes tracks are now DRM-free, so you can convert them to whatever format you wish. However, converting from one lossy format to another (e.g. AAC to mp3) can seriously mar the sound quality. I wouldn't suggest anyone use iTunes to download music if they're specifically looking for mp3s.

If you find any kind of website/program that allows you to download music for free it is illegal because it is breaching copyright and not paying royalties to the artists.
  • Hi everyone.

I am more than happy to pay for a particular track I want but cannot find it in any of the sites.

Could anyone tell me where I can download Crocodile Dundee l theme tune - NOT the opening scene but the tune at the end with the 'digeree doo' music.

If not I will have to buy the whole album for around £9.00
