Does anyone think the goverment will suspend stamp duty in future, to get people buying again?

It's not stamp duty that stops people buying, it's the high cost of the property to start with.0

Stamp Duty is all well and good, but when you can't get a mortgage anyway its a bit irrelevant.0

I don't think the stalling in the housing market is down to the lack of mortgages or stamp duty or whatever else they tinker with. IMHO it's all ground to a halt because buyers and sellers expectations are quite simply not meeting any more.
There's a stalemate out there, and until sellers get realistic with what's happened to prices and adjust their expectations accordingly, the majority of buyers are going to hold off purchasing. Total impasse at the moment. No amount of mortgage availability or stamp duty tinkering is going to unblock this one.0 -
