expired points on driving licence

A friend asked me the other day if there was any ADVANTAGE to formally getting 3 points removed from his licence. His "crime" was a simple SP30, with no accident - and doesn't seem to affect insurance premiums at all in the present climate where a large proportion of British drivers are "criminals".

I can easliy advise him on the PROCEDURE - but can't see any special advantage to doing it.

Any thoughts?

  • The last time I got mine removed it cost £19..then got caught three months later! I've had my current 3 points since 2003 so the're well overdue to be removed, but I'm going to wait untill I need to change address or something as the points will be removed as a matter of course anyhow.

I am in a similar position but can see no benefit in it.

Plus having recently check my photocard its due to expire shortly having had it ten years. So will I shall do it when I renew card.

It worth keeping an eye on the expire date, they only stated issuing them about ten years ago so I suspect lots will expire without the holder noticing and running the risk of fines, big four figure fines!

I've just become aware of licences expiring over the last couple of months as well.
There will definately be a few caught out. Might be worth a post to warn people
