My 4 day old Samsung NC10 Netbook has just been knocked onto the floor and the screen has broken. I am gutted!!
Any thoughts on the best place/cheapest way to get the screen replaced? PC World quoted £230 (It cost £310 last week)! Obviously I expected them to be expensive!
I live in the New Forest in Hampshire so if anyone knows anywhere local to here that would be great too!

Mine was dropped and was also quoted by the insurance company as not being financially viable to repair. They gave me a brand new one and I then purchased a replacement screen from ebay for £90 from a company in northern ireland. So I ended up with 2 laptops.
The company from ebay sent it within 48hrs and went through it over the phone how to fit it as I am so not technically minded!!0 -

Did you buy using credit card? you might be covered with purchase protection.

Check your household contents cover policy. Some ( if not most ) include cover for damage to " home entertainment , audio equipment and computers " as standard and you do not need to have separate accidental damage cover.0

off on a tangent but is it easy to change a screen? I have a Dell laptop and my daughter sat on it as it was left - not by me I hasten to add- on the back seat of the car, now the screen has a funny multi coloured image all over the screen, do I need same model or any dell screen same size? and is it something that is straight forward to change?
I will need to do this or claim on my insurance which I would rather avoid doing
thanks2007 £1749

Changing a screen is very easy, a basic guide.
Remove the screws round the screen they are often under the rubber cushions then the screws that hold the screen to the lid disconnect the power and data cables at the bottom and it should come away from the case. then remove any bracket holding the LCD panel and swap the screen over, some screens include the back light some don't if it doesn't it is just another bit to remove and swap. then just put it all back together. I always test before putting it fully together to make sure it works to save putting a dud screen back in.
Ohh and LCD screens can get damaged in transit. They can be dammged very easily especially large screens just lyeing one down can cause it to crack due to the weight. I have had 3 LCD screens arrive broken.0 -
Wow. Luck of the draw. Girlfriend accidentally stepped on my Samsung NC10 also.
There's now a split screen and a huge black patch on the screen.
I'm looking at the touchscreen LCDs on ebay and wondering if they will do, or are they an extra layer only on top of the existing LCD? ie I will need to buy a whole new one?
Would love any advice on this...
Thanks!0
