Alliance & Leicester - Faster Payment

Options
Hello,
I noticed that A&L is delaying transactions if the transaction amount is more than £500.00. My last transaction took 4 days which I think is not acceptable.

Today I made a test transaction of £1.00 and it reached the other account within seconds. However, the other transaction of £1001.00 still hasn't arrived yet.

Does anyone else also experience difficulties with A&L concerning faster payments?

Thanks.

Some banks have limits on Faster Payments as they test out the system

Some have per day, some have per transaction

Halifax's seems to change all the time

I also recently sent £1000 from A+L to HSBC which is still in transit whereas the other way round is instant
  • I've just phoned A&L and they said that the current limit on Faster Payment was £250.00. Grrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
They do not provide this information on their webpage.
    All they are saying is

How are Alliance & Leicester rolling out the service?

    Our answer is:
From 27 May 2008, members* will be gradually implementing their own plans to deliver the new service to their customers. This phased approach will help ensure that the Service is launched smoothly, securely and with total reliability. At Alliance & Leicester we like to keep things simple for our customers.
We plan for customers to be able to recieve payments from 27 May 2008.

We plan that during the Summer of 2008 the facility for sending payments through the Faster Payments Service will be available.
Later in the year, we will be advising customers of our ‘ sending ’ service.
*Alliance & Leicester is a participating member of the Service – the other twelve are Abbey, Barclays, Citibank, Co-operative Bank, HBOS, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, National Australia Group (Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank), Nationwide Building Society, Northern Bank (Danske Bank), Northern Rock and Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
Well, Summer of 2008 is long time ago!
According to the lady on the A&L phone my transaction will take 4 days to reach the other account. So if you want to transfer more than £250.00 you are better off to split it.
Most annoying is that I need the money to make a payment into my regular saver and the A&L guys are not able to stop the transaction (so that I can split the amount of £1000.00 into four). I'm really unhappy with A&L.

A&L has a maximum send size of 250 for FP, unless that's recently changed, which explains what's been experienced!
  • By the way, I think "testing out the system" is a silly excuse. What does one need to test? It is obviously working with other banks - so I think A&L just wants make some money on the interests.

A&L have a limit on faster payments over a certain amount (?£250), then they are just sent at normal payment speed and therefore take a number of days.

Thanks - thats just answered my question - I sent £500 (having previously sent small amount) to my other account , and wondered what was going on couldnt find any info and was about to call them.

Thing is I sent 2k recently sent from Natwest to A+L and it appeared straight away?

    MMMmm....
  • In fact, you can't even split the amount into two as I have just found out!
If you try to transfer to the same payee at the same day you are getting the following lovely message

So you can only change the date if you are trying to split and transfer to the same payee...
    A&L really sucks!

You can send to different payees on the same date. I send £500 to A&L from Barclays to satisfy the £500 funding rule then instantly back to Barclays for £250 and £250 to NatWest and from there back to Barclays. Takes about 3 minutes in all.

    Hi all,

Sorry to revisit an old thread, but hopefully someone can help me. I needed to transfer £500 today from A&L to Halifax.

I had seen on the forums that it was limited to £250, so I sent this amount to one account with Halifax, and then another £250 to a different Halifax account.

The first payment is showing in my Halifax account now, but the second isn't. Any ideas as to why this would be? I have triple checked the account details I sent it to, and they are correct, so why would one payment show and the second, done less than a minute afterwards not show?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed!

The fact you have to set up different payees to transfer more than £250 by FP really annoys me! I bank with A&L as they offer me the best deal, but also have Halifax (for the £5 a month) and their system is so much better. I can see why some get annoyed with the good rate/poor service accounts but to be honest for me its just about the money
