Not a happy bunny
- had to put heating on Saturday night, coz it went really cold here. Was really pleased keeping it off til 7th November, though if it gets any warmer towards the end of this week it'll be off again !!! Only heating one room (living room) so far, am looking into dehumidifiers as am in 1 bed flat with nowhere to dry washing, get terrible condensation, and usually end up with chest infection at some point, fighting the landlord for drying facilities, although a neighbour & I have threatened to string a line up between two trees !!! Problem is its open plan area, nowhere fenced off, and everyone takes a shortcut through the car park.
'No privacy to hang me smalls' :rotfl:When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

I got a dehumidifyer last year, and it makes a huge difference when drying washing or in wet weather. I used to get bronchitis in winter.0

Can anyone give me some advice as to which size dehumidifier I would need for a 2 bed end of terrace house? Even in the summer the house can be damp.
I was thinking of this one, although its not the cheapest I thought it sounded the most decent for the money : http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4250210/c_1/1|category_root|Home+and+furniture|14417894/c_2/3|15701253|Dehumidifiers+and+air+treatment|14418335/c_3/4|cat_14418335|Dehumidifiers|14418336.htmCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
It occurred to me today that I often whizz around the solid floors with a broom, picking up the fluff and dog hair with a dustpan rather than get the hoover out. Not because I'm being an MSE'r but because I prefer the peace and quiet!
A quick run round with it each day must add up over the course of the year0 -
i was wondering about candles whilst reading this thread, can anyone tell me who uses them regularly if the smoke discolours your wallpaper, or are the perfumed varieties smokeless? i was thinking it woulden't be very moneysaving if i saved on electric but needed to redecorate you see (thanks in advance)0

I use candles all the time and my house is painted white. I do not get any marks from candles on the ceilings.0

the onley time I had a problem was
one year I bought large chunky
candles in IKEA.Looked lovely that
evening with friends tound as we had
four of them burning, the next morning
when I went into the sittingroom it was
just large grey markes right up to the
ceiling.I think looking back they were
probably more suited to outdoor use.
although it never said so on the wrappers
Still burn candles now and never had the
same problem,I trim the wick before I light it.
At the moment I have a Prices scented lavender
jar on the go.I have recently used the Primark
scented candles and found them very good,so
you dont have to use the dearest to get a good
result often use t lights as well,no smoke since
that one time.:j:j:j0 -
Hi Nicki - have been looking into dehumidifier prices, J0hn Lew1s had one £129.99, out of stock, came back in store same one £149.99
De-L0nghi seem to be the best value for money & the quietest, have seen cheaper ones (M@tsui), but very noisy to run. Checkout CUrrys & C0met, the seem to be cheaper than Arg0s for some models - am trying to hang on till winter sales - they may go cheaper then (hopefully) !When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

Thanks for all the great advice here.
A quick question. Does anybody know whether heating using a gas fire is cheaper to run than the central heating system? My boiler and gas fire are about 12 years old.0
