Son killed the tv!

Hi,
My son has just threw one of his toys at the tv and now its time to claim the contents insurance (big crack on the lcd). But i've never did this before and just want to get my facts straight before calling the insurance company (Barclays).
My policy covers (as standard) accidental damage to tv and audio equipment but i've noticed that my policy only states there are 2 adults and 0 children. I took this policy out 3 years ago and its automatically renewed every year and I never thought of adding my son to the policy (he's nearly 2).
I want to find out if this is a problem or if I'm just being too cauious.
Any comments would be appreciated before making the call tomorrow.
Thanks,
Iain.

Ring them up and explain.
If you don't - you will be commiting insurance fraud?
We've claimed for things which were in conflict with the policy. It'll depend on your insurers. (A bike which was stolen which was unlocked
- policy stated we should have taken all steps to protect it- oops).
This might not help, although there are humans at the other end- I promise!

I don't know what you mean by commiting insurance fraud?
All I want to know is if there is going to be a problem because I haven't told them I have a son? (i.e. meaning I have to pay for a new tv out my own pocket). Or is this nothing to worry out and I'm just being too skeptical because I've never claimed insurance before.
I'm probably worrying because i've heard lots of horror stories where people have accidents but the insurance company wriggles out of paying anything because of technicalities.0 -

It may be that you won't be covered as you didn't tell them about your son. The premiums may have been higher if they had known about him as you are probably more at risk from accidental damage because of his age.
Best thing to do is phone and explain and get him added on now. At least then you would be covered for future claims if not for this one.
By the way you are probably paying more than you need to by just allowing it to renew each year - have you done a comparison to check?0 -
Surely it was you that accidentally hit it whilst hoovering or something?

Not that I'd condone that obviously.0 -

sorry, I wasn't accusing, I was saying, you needed to declare him to have an honest claim? otherwise it's against the rules of the insurance, as your details were incorrect. Insurers can be petty- as per the horror stories you've heard.
Although, personally I'd ring, explain that you're a long term customer and the last thing you've been thinking about with a young toddler is whether you have put him into the insurance cover!
Whether they'll be nice is down to the insurers.... or you were hoovering and had an accident as the poster above says :rolleyes:If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
I always find it amazing the strength of MSE'ers children
It seems they regularly manage to throw their toy's with the height and force to crack TV's
Its only a matter of time before the police forces in this country need to carry kryptonite to control them
