Cats, vaccinations and catteries

We are looking at rehoming another cat... the cat does not have up to date vaccinations, just his initial boosters. He is now 18 months old. Is there any way we can get his vaccinations up to date so that he will be accepted by a cattery? We are going away for one week in june, and I would really prefer him to go in a cattery.

Many thanks

Gingin

he can have his jabs done now and will be fine for June - iirc they are only 3 weeks apart.

You've got loads of time to get this sorted! You just need a trip to the vet and outline what the cat has or hasn't had. If you don't have the previous inoculation card the vet might recommend that you have the cat have vaccinations as if he's never had them at all before - then there will be no doubt that he is properly vaccinated. Whatever happens, you definitely have time on yourside before the cattery in June.

Good luck with your new kitty!

Ah! Brilliant! I was under the (naive) impression that if a cat hadn't been vaccinated yearly, he/she wouldn't be accepted by the cattery.

    Thanks so much

When you have a cat with unknown vaccinations you need the full course, which is done over a few weeks in two vet visits, then every year after that it is just one visit to the vet. I'm glad we set your mind at rest- enjoy your holiday. Don't forget to take their vacc records with you to the cattery - we store ours in the cat transport box so they're always on hand for vet or cattery.;)

It the Cat is 18 months, I guess he had his 2nd primary jabs @ 3 months, so they're 3 months over, some Vets might be happy to just do the booster now without another primary course.
