Freezer & fridge - Bosch or Whirlpool?

Hello everyone,

We have been looking for a new freezer and fridge - undercounter types.

We have found two that would fit the bill nicely and I was wondering if anyone on here as any opinions on whether Bosch or Whirlpool are the better buy (Bosch are slightly more expensive).

Any thoughts more than welcome - many thanks

  • I have a Bosch fridge freezer had it for over 4yrs no probs at all. Whirlpool is made by Phillips & I am not a fan to be honest.

I would go for Bosch over Whirlpool anytime.

Most of the top fridge freezers will not give you any problems for years really, but Bosch is just a choice for me.

Make sure it is a frost free freezer, defrosting is a pain when your freezer is full.

I recently fitted the Bosch GUD15A40GB built under freezer and Bosch KUR15A40GB fridge for a relative. Both were purchased from Comet who had a brilliant deal on them (sadly now expired).
They have a very clever long reach tool with them to assist in making sure they were level. They are also superbly quiet and reach their minimum operating temperatures by being set on very low settings.
You may need to purchase a set of star shaped allen keys if you are fitting cupboard doors onto them as the 'screws' are not standard slot or crosspoint ones.
Bosch also have an additional extra years warranty if completed online.
Don't know much about Whirlpool sorry.

Bosh over Whirlpool, with any appliance, any time.
  • We have a Bosch undercounter fridge and freezer. They are just over 2 years old and just out of guarantee. We've had no problems with them apart from the fact that the fridge makes a loud click/clunk noise every so often. I've no idea what causes it and we never got round to contacting Currys (who we bought them from) because we weren't sure if the noise was normal in which case they probably would have stung us with a callout fee. We've kind of got used to the noise now! I'd still buy Bosch given their more reliable reputation and they weren't that much more expensive than other makes. When you take the two year guarantee into account over most manufacturers one year guarantee it's worth the little bit extra.

But .... if anyone knows what the noise is likely to be that our fridge is making please let me know!

Bosch, Bosch, Bosch, Bosch, Bosch...all day long over Whirlpool...infact I would recommend any of the BSh Group of companies products over most of the other manufacturers on the market.

*Definitely* Bosch over Whirlpool, no question.

We have a Bosch oven, Bosch dishwasher and Bosch microwave. The only problem we have had has been with the oven (on Xmas Day!). They came out the next morning after we phoned and it was put right (this was during the Christmas period, bear in mind).

We also have a Whirlpool American fridge/freezer and it has been nothing but problems. Has packed up three or four times and we've lost a freezer full of food on each occasion. Repairs take an age - we had to wait for a part from Italy once and the repair on that occasion must have taken around 2 months. Can you imagine 2 months without a working fridge/freezer with a family of 4...??! Usually it's been a week to wait for them to come, and another week on top of that when they realise they don't have the right part on the van (even if we've told them the same part has gone yet again). Have written to Whirlpool many, many times and they don't seem to care (most letters are ignored, even if I send by recorded delivery).

I will NEVER buy Whirlpool again. My experiences of them have been truly awful.
  • a little late, but i too prefer bosch. their frost free fridge freezers have always been fine with me.
