Help Please: Washing machine spin cycle not working- repair possible?

Hi there,
Our LG washing machine WM 1485FHD, which we bought in 2003 seems to be having problems with the spin cycle. The washing machine works ok, but the spin cycle takes AGES and will say 11 minutes or 3 minutes left but then run for over 40 minutes. There seems to be a problem with the timer on the spin cycle.
I am not technologically minded, but wondering if this is related to the control board, or if it's in need of a software update or something? I am wondering if this is something that we can repair ourselves?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx so much.

I'm sorry, but I don't know much about washing machines, just wanted to point you in the direction of ukwhitegoods.co.uk as they will be able to help. Website is run by appliance engineers...we had some good info from them when our dishwasher and washing machine decided to give up at the same time. We managed to keep both going for another six months, until we could afford to replace (not that I'm saying yours is beyond repair!).

Would the brushes on the motor cause the spin cycle not to work properly? Thanks so much- any advice is appreciated.0
