  • I would also tend to recommend tenerife, but the Fanabe Torviscas end. Look up Grand Hotel Costa Adeje. I've been looking this one up recently, and I'm not sure what to do (also looking at Las Dalias and Bouganville because we know them and the area).

A good site for choosing your own options on flights then hotels is www.sunsave.co.uk
  • Many Thanks for all your replies

Can anyone advise on the following:-
Funchal, Madeira – evening entertainment is there any? We like to dance & see odd show/cabaret.
Gran Canaria – Puerto de Morgan – Cordial Morgan Playa seems to be main hotel is it any good & does have entertainment or in the resort?
Tenerife – Los Gigantes – Hotel Los Gigantes seems to be main hotel is it any good, same question as above re- entertainment in area?
    Tenerife – Cosat Adeje –
Iberostar Grand Hotel Anthelia - is it in right side of town? Again re entertainment? Some query as to worth 5 * status also would there be too many children?
Riu Palace - is it in right side of town? Is it any good & does have entertainment or in the resort? Also would there be too many children?
Hotel Jardines de Nivaria – all of above?
Dream Hotel Gran Tacande – all of above, is there building work still going on behind hotel?

I know I am asking a lot of info but will be grateful for any advice.
    Thanks
    Pat
  • I'd definately recommend Madiera.
The casino does dinner/cabarets with different themes.
Most tour operators do a night in a typical Madeiran restaurant with local music/dancing - pretty folky stuff though.
It is a mecca for walkers with dozens of walks along the levadas - man made irrigation channels that run on more or less flat courses through the stunning mountain scenery.
The hotel area to the west of the town extends for a long way nowadays, anything further than the Tivoli Ocean Park would probably be too far to walk into town.
If you want to push the boat out for your special occasion, see if your budget will stretch to staying at Reids Palace.
You still get some time share touts there but because there's no sandy beaches or raucous nightlife it is particularly well suited to someone with a more mature outlook.
Unless of course you count the wicker sofa sledge ride down the hill in Funchal which is a lot safer than it looks!

There are two reviews of hotels in Los Gigantes here and here that sound good.

Iberostar Grand Hotel Anthelia got a great review by the The Daily Mirror, you can read it HERE.

The Jardines de Nivaria hotel in Costa Adeje was awarded a TUI Unwelt Champion Award in a top ten about the best hotels in the world according to HERE.

I hope this helps and that you have a great holiday wherever you go/stay! :)
  • Hi olive,I have stayed in gran tacande, poor service now old manager has left, used to be a great hotel, stayed there for many years. Jardines de nivaria, lovely stay here, great service, more suited to older clientele, beautiful public rooms, anmd pool, however bedrooms, not as good as Gran tacande, much smaller, service much better though. Gran anthelia, is nxt to jardins de nivaria, which are both in an excellent part of adeje, the newest area at the beach, with new high end shopping centre, both ideal location as is tacande.Gran anthelia is actually classed as a 4* in alot of brochures but is nevertheless a lovely hotel, delightful decor and pretty modern, nice holiday here. Also Gran bahia del duque, but this is classed as the best in the area, but for me when we stayeed here we have had better rooms in the other aforementioned hotels, however public rooms, restarants, pools, location and entertainment, top class though, but you definately pay for it!!

It would definately depend on what you like doing, if you prefer entertainment or a quiet hotel, all have different age groups,if you have any more questions just pm me,as I go here twice a year minimum, and know where to go and where not to!

Just to mention there has been talk of Gran hotel costa adeje, leave this one alone, very disappointing claims to be 5*, rooms are lovely, but service/location on a hill 10 mins walk from beach is not ideal, looks lovely in brochures but is certainly a poor relation to other hotels I have mentioned.
  • Alos los gigantes hotel, nice but 4*, and getting older, although I believe they have revamped some rooms, los gigantes very much queiter, than adeje, and adeje is pretty quiet!! Also a hr+ from airport, very nice though, hotels not as nice.

Peuto Mogan in Gran Canara is lovely. It can get busy with tourists on Market day but they soon go again! We had booked for the Cordial but had to cancel. It looked a very nice hotel when we stopped in the area last time though, and that had persuaded us to try there this time.
  • Sorry, just seen riu palce, also nice further out than the others not so good location, lots of german visitors,so get your towels down early, yes, they still do it!!!

Kids will be more at Riu-more of a resort, and anthelia palace, but not too many here,it depends if you go in kids holiday time though.

Jardines, more older people, but nice atmosphere, los gigantes hotel is more family oreinted. Tacande also pretty quiet, fewer kids.
  • In fact going back to your original post,I d say a sea view room/junior suite in either Jardines de nivarias or Gran bahia del duque, both are a bit more special, AND I know there was dancing regularly at the nivarias food nice also!! Good luck ...
  • Any decisions yet,olive????
