i want to repaint some flat internal doors , ive already blow torched off loads of layers and then 2 coats of primer/undercoat , sanded and rollered on some eggshell we had laying around
it looks rank , you can see where the roller has been and its patchy:o
so i need to sand them flat again and repaint , whats a proper good brand , can i get something that self levels ?
would i be better with a good gloss instead?

try sanding with a block. then try painting with the doors on the flat. also put a bit of thinners in the paint to make it flow more evenly.
a good quality brush beats a roller every time. but rollers are fast!
paint brand is not that much of an issue really, technique is more important.
ive done decent jobs with BQ and wickes brand paint. in most cases i cannot say using Dulux would have made any real difference.Get some gorm.0 -
yeah i was thinking maybe a few screws in the ends and lay them flat across 2 stands
do the water based paints thin out well? was hoping to get a low oudor one0 -
yes, the same as using emulsion. try a small cup full at first.
i thought you were using the normal oil based paint for woodwork.Get some gorm.0 -
should i be using oil based then ?
i dont have much exp doing home paintwork0 -
all depends really. more and more peeps (and pros) are using water based paints for all jobs.
i just prefer to use oil based paints for woodwork. just think the gloss finish is hard to beat.Get some gorm.0 -
What size roller are you using?
Make sure its the gloss roller not the emulsion roller, the six inch one is big enough.
Roller marks indicate that you have not applied enough paint or worked too little paint over too wide an area.
Remember to overlap when rolling, watch out for drips and make sure that you sand between coats then wipe off dust with clean rag soaked in turps before applying next coat.
Its all about care and attention. Make sure any mouldings are painted, use a little brush if necessary.
Stand back regularly to observe how the work is progressing.
Gloss painting is better done as fast as possible otherwise the paint is drying as you overpaint it which can cause waves and ripples in the final job.
Good luck.
Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?
