Hiya,
Anyone know any place for getting cheap tickets for Retrofest 2009?
I was lucky enough to get 2 at £5 each on the lastminute.com sale on Friday for DH & I, but desperately want weekend tickets for my brother and his wife for his 40th Birthday present. Am already spending a fair bit on the hotel for the weekend so looking to get the tickets cheap as possible.
I see the website states early bird tickets avail from 1st Feb to 3rd Feb but when I click to buy there are none on sale.

Anyone know of anywhere else?

Hi
The Retrofest site now says that all early bird tickets have sold out.
Last year Real Radio sponsored it and they are doing it again so keep an ear out as they always tell you where and when to buy tickets.
Just had a look on their website but there is nothing up there yet. Here is the link though : http://www.realradio-scotland.co.uk/events/
Also on 16th February the line up will be revealed in the Daily Record and I would imagine they will have ticket info too.
Good luck (hope the weather is better this year!)

Hi - thanks for answering.
The first page of the Retrofest site said another batch of early bird tickets would be on sale 1st to 3rd Feb, so I waited til 1st Feb but even then the link still went to the page saying the early bird tickets were sold out - which is the message thats been there since the September batch sold out.
However, today it's been updated to say the next batch of tickets will now be released on 16th when the line-up is announced so here's hoping I manage to get a couple.0 -
For anyone else who is interested earlybird tickets actually went onsale TODAY at 10:30am.

Venue has now been moved to Glasgow Green in the City Centre, instead of Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell. Thank God I hadn't gone ahead and booked a hotel like I had originally planned to :rolleyes:0 -
Retrofest has been moved to Loudoun Castle instead of Glasgow Green this year, just received an e-mail.Addicted to moneysaving! :rotfl:0

Heard on the radio this morning that it was to allow people to have a drink while they were watching the acts and this was not possible on Glasgow Green.0 -
Thats not what I heard. The organisers have moved Retrofest due to there being chromium waste found by Glasgow City Council in Richmond Park adjacent to Glasgow Green. There have been several gigs over the years at Glasgow Green and alcohol has been sold at them. The Fleah, Download are just a couple I was at and was able to drink.
It just sounds like an excuse to move it elsewhere, surely Richmond Park would be closed if there was significant danger to the public and Glasgow Green for that matter.
The fact that the event has moved so close to the actual date is a huge inconvenience to anyone going, if you live in Glasgow you will now need to take your car so you won't be able to drink anyway. If you want to drink you will have to book a B&B or hotel plus you have extra transport costs to get there. What about all of the people who have already booked accommodation in Glasgow when it was supposed to be at the Green?
I can't see Retrofest continuing for much longer to be honest, mucking their customers about like that. Wasn't it originally supposed to be at Strathclyde park so this is the third venue change? it looks like a shambles to me.0 -
SUnday lineup looks good, but £50 a ticket per day has put me off going,
a pity0 -
I know for a fact that the details about the waste are accurate as is the fact that they were either going to be given no alcohol license or a restricted one. Glasgow is the only city I know where the licensing department hide behind the byelaw that states that no alcohol can be consumed in a public place. Also, if the proposed site was Richmond Park then the area is contaminated with toxins including chromium. I think they have done the right thing. I would not wish to attend a festival that posed any health risks and more importantly would not give me a beer!!
I hope that this new move is a good one and that if they do do it again they don't change the venue again.
And how much would you pay to see a band these days?? £30? £40 plus for a two hour show?? They are charging £50.00 for eight bands which works out at £6.50 ish per band. I personally think thats a result. Mind you - you are always going to get some who whinge or want everything for nothing!!!0 -

Its not always looking for everything for nothing. If you are going as a couple it is now £100.00 for tickets and then all the other things like travel, food etc. Not all of us have that kind of spare cash.0 -
My point is that Glasgow City Council found chromium waste on Richmond Park adjacent to Glasgow Green, if they were that concerned they would close those two parks. Isn't there a family fun day at the start of August on Glasgow Green? No sign of that been moved to a different venue by the council.
I've just been to the Wickerman Festival in Dundrennan, tickets work out alot cheaper than Retrofest although you obviously have a fair bit to travel to get there. They had signs up itemising where the money goes from your ticket, i.e security, loos, bands, litter picking, vat, etc. Very good value for money and a very well organised family friendly festival.
I'm sure Retrofest will be very good for all those going, hopefully Loudoun Castle will be the ideal venue for them.0
